Will there be a total solar eclipse visible from Montserrat, West Indies on February 28, 1998?

I had a look at the "Canon of Eclipses" by Owen Gingerich published in 1961 by Dover Publishing Co, and it does list a solar eclipse, Number 7682, but on February 26, 1998. The track of the zone of totality, as best as I can judge from the plots that were computed in the Canon, runs from La Palma, Panama, across the northern tip of South America to Maracaibo, Venezuela, and then into the Carribean near Barbados. From Montserrat it looks to me like you will see either a total eclipse, or an almost complete but partial eclipse. I suggest you wait until the US Nautical Almanac for 1978 comes out in 2 years which publishes information about eclipse tracks. You can also have a look at Dr. Fred Espenak's Eclipse Pages which gives the latitude and longitude coordinates of the totality tracks for all eclipses to the year 2000. There may even be articles about it in such magazines as Sky and Telescope or Astronomy. Happy observing! And bring plenty of film, a tripod, and a good telephoto lens!!
