Where can I find an on-line NGC catalog?

William Herschel's New General Catalog lists thousands of objects, many of which are galaxies. The numbering scheme he used to catalog them is still used by astronomers over 200 years later.

Try using the NSSDC online search which you can get to by hopping over to my NSSDC hotkey and at the NSSDC going to the home page. They have a NSSDC Search page. Enter 'NGC Catalog' and several entries will come up. They also have their Astronomical Catalogs CDROM which contains the NGC catalog.

There is also a website which has an Online NGC Image Archive sponsored by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, but the last time looked at it it was off-lined for some reason.
