Will the April, 1997 solar storm affect Comet Hale-Bopp?

I would expect that it probably won't because Hale-Bopp is not located in the 'line of fire'. The solar wind plasma will pass just below the Earth in it's orbit, and Hale-Bopp is not anywhere close to the path the plasma will take.
