With the spectacular images returned by the Hubble Space Telescope, there is a wealth of data on quasars and their environments. Professor John Bahcall at Princeton leads the Hubble investigations. Other astronomers that have studied quasars are Prof. Alan Sandage at Caltech, Prof. Jeramiah Ostriker at Princeton, and Prof. Maarten Schmidt at Caltech. Also, Hy Spinrad at UC Berkeley and his students have been hunting for very distant quasars. Jim Gunn, Rodger Blanford and Colin Norman are well known theoreticians who have developed models for the matter flow into black holes that are believed to fuel the quasar phenomenon.
