Was a gas ball between Jupiter and Saturn discovered in the 1980's?

Charles Kowal in 1977 discovered 'Chiron' a 400 kilometer-sized body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus, but other than that there were no 'gaseous' bodies that I can recall between Jupiter and Saturn discovered in the 1980's.
