I would highly recommend visiting the Whole Mars Catalog which contains an excellent collection of research papers for 'how to do it' by reputable scientists. Especially the first collection by Martyn Fogg. The issue of terraforming is a very potent moral, political and scientific issue and many people have spent serious time thinking about the legal and moral ramifications of taking over another planet and altering it to suit humans. Personally, I think it is virtually impossible to alter another planet in this way. Mars is a leaky bag so far as creating a new atmosphere is concerned.
