Is the University of Virginia a good school for astronomy?

Yes. UVA is a good school for the types of astronomy for which the faculty are active in. They are also located a few blocks away from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and there are, I believe, many opportunities for graduate students to gain hands-on experience in modern radio astronomy. This is a wonderful opportunity, and a student would be making a serious tactical error by not availing themself of this resource.
