We have no idea what the psychology of hypothetical aliens might be, but judging from the variety of 'norms' seen among humans and human cultures, extraterrestrials could be driven by a wide range of desires. However, it is one thing to travel interstellar space, it is quite something else to attempt to subdue and conquer a whole planet the size of the Earth.
