Which constellations were in the sky on 5/29/1986 as seen from New York city?

Quite a few. In addition to the familiar circumpolar constellations such as Ursa Major, Cassiopeia and Cepheus, there was also Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Coma Berenices, Corona Borealis, Bootes and Cancer. It all depends on what time of night you mean. Towards the early morning, Sagittarius, Cygnus, and Aquila begin to rise as well.
