The Orion Spur appears to emerge from the direction of the constellation of Cygnus at a distance of about 6,000 light years where it probably connects with the Perseus Arm located just outside the Sun's orbit in the Milky Way. The Orion Spur follows the Milky Way through Cassiopeia and Perseus and is nearest the Sun ( about 1000 light years ) towards the 'anti-center' direction opposite from Sagittarius, which put it near Taurus. The Orion Spur then seems to vanish towards Carina completing a great arc through the Milky Way.
