There are several good books, but I have not really had the time to review any of them. You might try
The Backyard Astronomer's Guide by Terence Dickinson and Alay Dyermostly about how to get started in amateur astronomy, but with many tips on observing objects in the sky. There is another book called
Binocular Astronomy by Craig Crossen and Wil Tirionwhich includes star maps and how to use inexpensive binoculars to have a celestial 'good time'.
