1909, 1986 Halley's Comet returns.
1910 Ejnar Hertzsprung and Henry Russell establish the stellar
classification scheme based on luminosity and spectral type.
1919 Einstein's Theory of general relativity tested during a solar
eclipse.
1920 Harlow Shapley determined the size of the Milky Way.
1926 Lindblad and Oort establish that the Milky Way rotates.
1928 Edwin Hubble discovers that the universe is expanding
