What do you know about the constellation 'The Peacock"?
The constellation Pavo,'The Peacock' is a southern constellation near the
South Celestial Pole. It's bright B3 IV star 'Alpha Pavonis', located
about 230 light years from earth, is called
the Peacock Star. It is not a constellation of any
real antiquity. It was introduced in the early 1600's by Johann Bayer, the
famous cartographer who created the atlas 'Uranometria' and first assigned
greek letters to the brightest stars in a constellation. Pavo was named after
the bird favored by Juno.
